august is here and we’re soaking up every last drop of warm weather and sunshine while we can!

this week, we headed out to the dells for a day at naturadells! the drive took less than two hours and was surprisingly smooth, even with two toddlers (shout out to snack queen christakosor)

land of natura is a man-made naturally filtered lake with a beach, inflatables, and water rentals. I love that there’s no chlorine and there was a dedicated mini waterworld, just for kiddos five and under.

there’s also a tree top walkway, snorkeling cavern, hiking trails, sugar bowl lookouts, and more!

with so much to do, each day there can be different! we stayed on the beach this week, but we’ll have to return for a kayak ride, treetop paths, and forest trails.

I felt unexpectedly emotional visiting naturadells with Matt over a long weekend…the last time I remember being here was after my grandpa died when I was about 15.

He was so special to us, my sister and I. And to many others, but I think of him in that context. He spent five years of his life picking us up every Friday night after school to take us out to eat. We got to pick. It was often Subway, McDonalds, Burger King or Fazolis—sometimes Culver’s.

That time was precious. It explains why part of my love language is a good meal as an adult, and why I value dinner as quality catch-up time.

When he passed, our parents took us to the dells. It was a good way to honor him because it felt like he was all about enjoying every little moment. He had the best laugh and smile. I felt like I could tell him anything.

He carried a warmth every grandparent should have. We were lucky to call him ours.

I’m lucky I have wonderful grandparents through and through.

Over a long weekend, Matt and I enjoyed the waterpark in a way I didn’t expect. Miss you, grandpa Jack. I promise to keep having more fun. ♥️

If you have grandparents that are alive, call them often.

Thanks for having us, Land of Natura. We enjoyed the tree walk, paddle boarding and obstacle courses—I can confidently now say that I will never qualify for Ninja Warrior. I fell more times than I’d like to admit.

But I laughed for Grandpa! 😉
